The 5. and 6. ship could be built directly after the 4. one, so all ships might be delivered by 2030. (http://www.bundeswehr-journal.de/2017/zwei-weitere-mks-180-fuer-die-deutsche-marine/)
The Mks 180 wont be similar to the F125-class' capabilities. They will be equipped with a vls for essm and an towed array sonar for submarine-huntinting. They also will not only replace the gepard fast patrol craft (they are still out of service) rather the F123 multipurpose frigates. When it comes to weapons and sensorsuite on par with UK Type 26 and German MKS180. Plans include provisions for installment of High Energy Lasers (HEL) as CIWS and dual Sovraponte 76mms with combined ASuW and CIWS role. Probably 4-5,000 GRT and therefore really between frigate and destroyer, but than could be said of much more European 'frigates'. People just don't like the sound of destroyer here, even if they actually are.. ;)Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13011062817693607237noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4093295897241438289.post-79971293909107292232017-01-21T14:26:59.462+02:002017-01-21T14:26:59.462+02:00Many promising developments my friend but for much...Many promising developments my friend but for much fewer units (helicopters, aircraft, ships etc.). Some of the new units also such as the Type 31 frigates, will be actually corvettes/light frigates in comparison with the Type 23 frigates that will replace.D-Mitchhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13958151042890362933noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4093295897241438289.post-85761312137390380812017-01-18T21:19:19.831+02:002017-01-18T21:19:19.831+02:00Thanks for yet another informative and interesting...Thanks for yet another informative and interesting article, D-Mitch. It's odd to see how the RN has 'fallen behind' compared to past glory, but at least there are some promising developments ahead with the new frigates etc.Ulrikhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13201955178511979110noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4093295897241438289.post-75862369519812067242016-10-18T12:11:51.437+03:002016-10-18T12:11:51.437+03:00Thank you Ali for your comments. One reason might be that MKS180 will propably be late and the navy has a shortage on ships, so Lürssen and the government have an interest to fill time, so to speak.
The first Korvettes are planned to be devlivered in two years already.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4093295897241438289.post-13660920107749844992016-10-11T16:24:52.705+03:002016-10-11T16:24:52.705+03:00For 4 MKS-180 ships the german navy will actually ...For 4 MKS-180 ships the german navy will actually pay 4 billion euros. That's more the price tag for a destroyer.
Also the concept is to get a ship that can act in high intensity scenarios in all 3 dimensions. Dont know if they will achieve that with modules or in some other way. But the MKS-180 is certainly not a corvette or light frigate.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
